About Ankara

Ankara has a history dating back to the Bronze Age. The name means "Anchor". It was declared the capitla of the New Turkish Replublic in 1923.

Here you can visit the magnificent mausoleum constructed to commemorate Attaturk, showing off the elegance and strength of Turkish architecture.

The city surrounds a castle, and some of the best examples of Selcuk art and woodcraftsmanship can be found here.

The area has been rejuvenated and now boasts many fine restaurants offering traditional Turkish cuisine.

Near the gate of the castle is the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations containing priceless artifacts belonging to the Paleolithic and Neolitic eras.

 

Ankara has a vibrant cultural and artisic life with many theatre, opera, ballet and folk dance perfomances.
