About Kayseri

Kayseri is a large and well-planned city in Central Antalolia. It used to be a sleepy conservative town but is now rapidly growing into a bustling city. Most people pass through the city en route to Cappadocia but there are some interesting places in the town itself worthy of note: the famous walls of the citadel; an archaeological museum; covered markets and historic houses. The airport at Kayseri is the most convenient to Central Cappadocia and it is for this reason most travelers come.

Cappadocia with its surreal geological formation is the result of two opposing forces of nature – volcanic activity in the constructive stage and erosion in the destructive stage. This region offers the most incredible geographical formations, fairy chimneys, rock cut churches, monasteries and a rich historical heritage. The village of Goreme is characterized by the way the villagers have harmonized their man made dwellings with the natural environment. The village of Zelve is one of the best examples of cave dwellers in existence today. Ortahisar is dominated by a fortress like rock rising above the winding roads. Old Cavusin is another fantastic example of rock dwellings and stone houses.

Derinkuyu and Kaymakli are famous for the underground cities.
