Less than an hour from Antalya City Centre, Side is a fabulous mix of the old and the new, with ancient ruins mixing with modern architecture.  Once a prominent port and a haven for pirates, Side is now a working town with attractive old houses, a pretty harbour, a popular beach and some impressive historical ruins. Many of the major sites such as Aspendos and Perge are close enough to be reached on foot.

Side town offers something for everyone – there are many bars, restaurants and clubs, and pleanty of opportunities for shopping. Although much of the holiday accommodation centres around large resort complexes Side still manages to retain its small town charm. Ruins are dotted throughout the town – the ampitheatre, the 2^nd century temples to Apolla and Athena – Side Museum houses an excellent collection of Roman statues – including a statue of the Three Graces – as well as some superb marble sculptures, sarcophagi and carvings.

Side is one of the best-known classical sites in Turkey, and was an ancient harbor whose name meant pomegranate. Side is a resort town on the southern coast of Turkey, near the villages of Manavgat and Selimiye, 75 km from Antalya) in the province of Antalya. It is located on the eastern part of the Pamphylian coast, which lies about 20 km east of the mouth of the Eurymedon River.
Settlers from Cyme  in Aeolis, an ancient region of northwestern Asia Minor, founded the city in the seventh century BC. Possessing a good harbor for small-craft boats, Side s natural geography made it the most important place in Pamphylia – the region in the south of Asia Minor between Lycia and Cilicia, from the Mediterranean to Mount Taurus. This location made Side one of the most important trade centers in its time. Today, as in yesteryear, the ancient city of Side is situated on a small north-south peninsula about 1 km long and 400m across.
