Sultanahmet
Sultanahmet is the oldest part of Istanbul and the location of most of its historical sites. Here you can see the Aya Sofia dating from the 6th Century – once a Church, then a mosque and now a museum: Topkapi Palace – the imperical enclave of the Ottoman Emperors: Sultanahmet Mosque (The Blue Mosque) with its 6 minarets and blue mosaic tiles; the Hippodrome – the building no longer stands but you can still see the obelisk and the sculptures; the Museum of Archaeology housing untold treasures. Sultanahmet is also the ideal place to experience a traditional Turkish bath in an authentic setting. Many of the cities most popular sites are within walking distance from here including Emininou Port, the Galata Tower, the Grand Bazaar and the Egyptian spice market.
